Tutorial: Changing File Associations

You may want to change the way in which your computer uses programs to open various file types. For example you may have changed your word processing program from Microsoft Word to Open Office Writer and you want to tell the computer to open all Word documents with Writer.

Follow these instructions –

  1. Open the Documents folder and right-click on a Word file.
  2. Click on Open With and select Writer
  3. Click on the box beside Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
  4. Click OK

 

If you are using Windows 7 then, after right clicking on the file select Choose a default program and select Writer. Click OK
